Backing up a bit, 2013 was also the year we saw Chris Thile in concert twice in a pretty short amount of time. If you haven’t heard of Chris Thile, you need to go look him up right now — he’s basically the best mandolin player ever. I am not exaggerating. He is formerly of the band Nickel Creek and now has his own band, Punch Brothers, and does a lot of solo things as well. To listen to the music is one thing, to see it on YouTube is another, but to experience it in person… there are no words that properly express what it feels like.
Grant and I enjoyed the Punch Brothers concert at the 9:30 Club so much that we actually went home and looked up tickets for any other time we could go to a Chris Thile concert, with or without Punch Brothers. We were in luck and bought tickets to see him later in the spring.
Sadly, I do not have a picture of/with Chris. So I will now leave you with a picture of some of the best pizza on the planet, which is always my requested first meal home from abroad (I could really go for some right now!):
